Induction heating device with electronic positioning control

Abstract

An induction heating apparatus 10 particularly adapted for precisely positioning the inductor 40 relative to the workpiece 12 before initiating the heating process. The inductor 40 is mounted on the end of an inductor shaft 34 that is carried by a slide 14. The end of the shaft 34 opposite the inductor 40 is connected to a coupling 65 that couples the shaft 34 to a stepping motor 56. The slide 14 moves the inductor 40 into engagement with the workpiece 12 and the stepping motor 56 is then energized to move the inductor 40 away from the workpiece 12 the required amount to obtain the desired spacing. <IMAGE>
